I've started experimenting with Google App Engine, and I am quite pleased so far. Development on my Mac is a breeze after installing Eclipse and getting the PyDev plugin installed. This seems to be the best option for Python development that I have found so far.
Another utility that I found helpful is the Google App Engine Launcher, found here. This tool makes it simple to create, test, and deploy your App. All of the tools you need are available.
The only thing that is slowing me down is learning Python, which up till now I never needed before. Google says they will support more languages in the future, which is great. Python seems pretty straight forward and is not a problem.
My first app will be a simple todo list, of course. Seems like an appropriate starter project. I'll keep you posted on my progress. A more ambitious project will be to convert TaPingYa over to the App Engine. Then I won't have to rely on my GoDaddy hosted server. I'm just not sure on the bandwidth, so I'll have to do some experiments. Google App Engine comes with some limitations, that you need to fall under.
